         The Ibbankatuwa Megalithic Cemetery that drew the attention of local and foreign archaeologists was declared a conserved archaeological site for educational purposes. The Megalithic age cemetery that had been within the purview of the Archaeological Department was conserved by the Cultural Triangle.

        Ibbankatuwa Ancient burial ground lies five kilometers before the Dambulla town on the Kurunegala-Dambulla Road. An archeological Department board will indicate the turn off from the main road. The site is reached by traveling about 500m in to this road.
 
        The Ibbankatuwa tomb site was first identified in 1970. The area where the tombs have been found is about 15×15 metres. About 10 tombs have been unearthed and each tomb is separated by four stone slabs and covered by another slab on the top. This Early Iron Age burial ground has been dated to 700 BC to 400 BC. Excavations have revealed that each tomb containing personal belonging such as clay pots, beads, necklaces, etc, similar to the practices in ancient Egypt pyramids. The gemstones found in some necklaces are only found in India indicating links to India during this time.

       Gal Ekka Ella waterfall is formed by the Kirindi Oya River close to Bandarawela. This rather obscure waterfall lies beneath the Gal Ella rail bridge. The closest railway station is Kinigama Railway Station. From here you need to walk along the railway track 1.2 kilometers towards the Heeloya railway station.

         Independence Memorial Hall is located in the Independence Square at Colombo 7. This place is known as Torrington Square in early days. This Hall was built for the commemoration of the independence from British in 1948. But the construction of was started after the Independence 

      This Hall is based on the architecture of the Audience Hall( Magul Maduwa) located in Kandy. The column and pilers are decorated with traditional Sri Lankan designs and statues of lions are placed around the the building.

                    Sri Lanka's 69th Independence Day on February 4th 2017 celebrated at the Galle Face Green in Colombo under the theme " National Unity".
     
      Also known as Independence Day, it is Sri Lanka's National Day. The holiday primarily celebrates Sri Lanka's independence from British rule on 4 February 1948,

      The main ceremony including tri forces guard of honor and procession will be held at 8.00 am and finish at 12 p.m. under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Queen Elizabeth extends wishes on Independence Day

           Queen Elizabeth II in a message on Sri Lanka’s Independence Day has extended her best wishes for the good fortune and happiness of the people of Sri Lanka in the coming year. “It gives me great pleasure to send Your Excellency Maithripala Sirisena my congratulations on the celebration of your National Day, together with my best wishes for the good fortune and happiness of the people of Sri Lanka in the coming year,” she said in the message.
